The validity [3-4] and security [5] of the 1RM tests have been demonstrated when a rigorous protocol is used [1]. If it’s worth it to adequately determine the intensity for aerobic training, then, what are you waiting to do the same for resistance training? Perhaps we will see more strength and muscle gains as well?
